TEO Net Profit Increased by 5.7% in 2009
OREANDA-NEWS. February 10, 2010. The total consolidated revenue of TEO LT, AB Group, the largest provider of integrated telecommunication, IT and TV services in Lithuania, in 2009 was LTL 816 million, a decline by 1.3 per cent over the revenue in 2008 (LTL 826 million).
EBITDA for the year 2009 amounted to LTL 338 million and EBITDA margin was 41.5 per cent. EBITDA in 2008 amounted to LTL 349 million and EBITDA margin was 42.2 per cent.
Profit before income tax for the year 2009 amounted to LTL 198 million (LTL 190 million a year ago). Net profit for the year 2009, compared with net profit for the year 2008 (LTL 160 million), increased by 5.7 per cent and amounted to LTL 169 million.
“The Company continued to provide good result despite harsh economic climate. In order to build its business value TEO heavily invested in its next-generation FTTH network. This strategy proved to be successful. Alongside with efficient costs savings this allowed the Company to maintain its profitability”, – Arunas Shikshta, General Manager of TEO, said when commenting on the activity results.
In 2009, the number of TEO broadband customers exceeded 300 thousand and the number of TV customers – 100 thousand. “This solid customer base provides good opportunities for diversification of the Company's revenue”, – Arunas Shikshta said.
According to him, in 2010 TEO will focus on further development of its next-generation network and will continue its revenue diversification. Quality of service and cost control will remain on the Company’s list of top priorities. “With its rapidly expanding digital terrestrial television services, TEO will contribute to Lithuania’s transition from analogue to digital television broadcasting”, – A. Shikshta said.
TEO further increased revenue from Internet and data communication services – it amounted to almost 33.8 per cent of total revenue. Share of revenue from voice telephony services amounted to 56.5 per cent, from television – 3.4 per cent, from information technology – 3 per cent and other services – 3.5 per cent.
During the year the number of fibre optical Internet access users increased 2.6 times up to almost 63 thousand and amounted to one-fifth of all TEO broadband Internet access users (313 thousand). The number of IPTV service users increased by 38.6 per cent up to 56 thousand and the number of digital terrestrial television users increased 1.8 times and at the end of the year exceeded 46 thousand. The total number of main telephone lines in service was 722 thousand.
According to the Report of the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), TEO market share for the third quarter of 2009 of the total Internet providers market in terms of revenue amounted to 40.8 per cent. In terms of revenue TEO had 69 per cent of the data communications market and 94.6 per cent of the fixed-line telephony market.
In 2009, the Company allocated LTL 117 million for investments. LTL 100 million were invested in network development, LTL 11 million – in IT systems, and LTL 6 million were allocated for upgrading of technological premises.
TEO Group consists of the parent company, TEO LT, AB, and its subsidiaries: Lintel, Baltic Data Center, Kompetencijos Ugdymo Centras and Verslo Investicijos. TEO is the sole founder and owner of a non-profit organisation VshI TEO Sportas. At the end of 2009 Baltic Data Center acquired a subsidiary, Interdata.
