Institute Hydroproject to Design HEP Stations in South America
OREANDA-NEWS. February 08, 2010. “Institute Hydroproject” (managed by “Engineering Center UES”) will participate in the development of pre-feasibility study and feasibility analysis for two hydro-electric projects “Tortugo” and “Llurimaguas” in Ecuador. The Institute will implement the work as part of an international consortium including a Mexican and an Ecuadorian company.
In the past 2009, Ecuador announced an international tender to choose a consulting company for engineering survey and development of pre-feasibility study and feasibility analysis for waterworks chain on the river Gualibamba. “Institute Hydroproject” took part in the competition as part of consortium with Mexican company “Technoproject” and a local Ecuadorian firm. Their joint proposal turned out to be the winner of the tender.
The Ecuadorian company takes upon themselves field implementation of engineering survey as well as acting in representative capacity. In particular, it will open a representative office in the capital city of Ecuador, Quito, and at the construction site; it will be in charge of all local administrative issues. Mexican “Technoproject” and “Institute Hydroproject” will jointly develop pre-feasibility study and feasibility analysis for these water works. The chain of HEPPs includes two hydraulic power systems: a 230 MW “Tortugo” and a 140 MW “Llurimaguas”. In late January, Hydroproject initiated negotiations in the city of Quito, capital of Ecuador, to coordinate distribution of scope of services, cost and terms of the contract. The Institute also signed a subcontract agreement with the Mexican “Technoproject”.
South America is not a new region for “Institute Hydroproject”. In the 70-80 ies of the last century the Institute took part in designing of waterworks in Peru, Argentina, Columbia and Brazil. For example, in Peru Hydroproject completed design survey and R&D work for hydraulic power station “Olmos” during the stage of feasibility study and preliminary design. In Argentina, a unique design of “Parana –Medio” waterworks on the river Parana was developed with participation of Hydroproject experts; the project included a 3 600 MW HEPP on “soft rock”, a navigation lock and a fish elevator.
