OREANDA-NEWS. February 01, 2010. Ingosstrakh OJSIC branch in Khabarovsk discovered an attempt at compulsory motor third party liability insurance fraud.

Specialists of Ingosstrakh Data Analysis and Security Department established in the course of inspection of validity of insurance indemnity that an application had been received from Vostokexportles Ltd. regarding insurance indemnity for a Toyota Corolla car owned by Vostokexportles damaged in a traffic accident. The accident occurred due to the fault of the driver of a Nissan Laurel car owned by S. Polyukh. The car owner’s third party liability was insured by Ingosstrakh OJSIC.

The inspection results established that an insurance fraud had been committed by a group organized by previous concert with O. Ageev, expert of the Claim Handling Department at the Ingosstrakh branch in Kahabarovsk, and A. Popov, expert of Rusavtoex Ltd., a company providing estimation services.

A criminal case on grounds of signs of insurance fraud under p. 2, art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was initiated in the course of coordinated work between Ingosstrakh Data Analysis and Security Department and Economic Crime Department and Investigation Department of the Direction of Internal Affairs of the Khabarovsk Territory. The court convicted all members of the criminal group. The court also sustained the civil claim brought by the Insurer regarding recovery from the convicted persons of an amount of 108,345 rubles.

The sentence of the Central District Court of Khabarovsk City was affirmed by the decision of the cassational instance of the Court of Khabarovsk Territory on January 14, 2010.
