OREANDA-NEWS. January 28, 2010. From 18 January Pulkovо Airport is starting new transfer passengers and baggage technology. Its introduction will enable to halve the minimal connection time between the flights.

The new technology means a number of changes in the process of passengers and baggage handling and also in the airport infrastructure. In particular, in Arrival terminal in Pulkovo-1 the special service desk for transfer passengers will appear, baggage handling standards will be changed.

Previously, passengers had to take their baggage during the connection in Saint-Petersburg, check-in again and pass customs and preflight security control before boarding for the next flight.

Due to new technology introduction, baggage will follow to the destination point without passenger concern and repeated passing of formalities. The second check-in for the connection flight is not needed also if the passenger checked-in at the airport of departure till the destination point at once.

Minimal time which passenger needs for the connection for the flight inside one terminal will make 45 minutes, previously one needed 1 hour for passing all the procedures. Transit between terminals Pulkovo-1 and Pulkovo-2 will reach 70 minutes – previously it was 150 minutes.
