OREANDA-NEWS. January 28, 2010. The Belarusian government expects more favorable conditions for its exports to the European Union in 2010, Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky said during his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy of Poland Waldemar Pawlak.

Belarus hopes the EU will cut tariffs on Belarusian exports. The EU tariff stands at 5.2%, but for Belarus it ranges from 17% to 80% and applies to trucks, special machines and high-tech products,” Sidorsky said.

The tariff is 90% on Belarusian meat exports, he added.

Furthermore, Belarus is the only country with textile exports to the EU subject to quotas.

The situation with tariffs and quotas impedes Polish investment projects in Belarus, as Polish investors would like to export their Belarusian-made products back to the EU, Sidorsky said.

On Thursday, it is planned to sign an agreement between the State Property Committee of Belarus and AKJ Capital on representation of Belarus’ investment interests.
