OREANDA-NEWS. January 22, 2010. "NPK Uralvagonzavod" (Open Joint Stock Company Science and Production Corporation Ural Railway Car Plant) has managed to achieve a positive profitability of the production of railway products through cutting costs.

In the spring 2009 losses in this sphere of the company's operations (the company is better known for making T-90 tanks) reached up to 20%.

The company informed RusBusinessNews that in 2010 it is planned to make 18,000 open top carriages, 5,500 railcar tanks, 1,000 flat cars. The technical upgrade will become a priority, receiving about 4 billion roubles worth of investment which is twice more than in 2009.

"Uralvagonzavod" has currently formed a portfolio of orders for civilian equipment; for instance, contracts have been signed with JSC Russian Railways and JSC Transneft. The company is going to ship 7,500 open top carriages to the First Cargo Company (a subsidiary of Russian Railways). "Uralvagonzavod" will also make 5 thousand railcar tanks for the oil transportation system East Siberia - Pacific Ocean commissioned in January 2010.

The decree of the Russian Government to pay 10 billion roubles into the registered share capital of OAO "NPK "Uralvagonzavod" will help the development of the company.
