RTS Released Stock Market Weekly Trading Results

OREANDA-NEWS. January 20, 2010. Over the week of January 11 – January 15, 2010, the RTS Index went up by 7.94% to reach 1,559.25 points (1,444.61 points as of December 31, 2009). Most of the positive impact on the RTS Index dynamics was related to the rising prices for ordinary shares of Sberbank (SBERS) (plus 19.39 points) followed by ordinary shares of OJSC "MMC "NORILSK NICKEL" (plus 17.93 points) and ordinary shares of OJSC "OC "Rosneft" (ROSNS) (plus 10.55 points).

The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 experienced an increase of 7.88% closing at 1,539.79 points (1,427.28 points as of December 31, 2009). Last week all the key economy sectors represented on the Russian stock market demonstrated a positive trend. The largest growth was reported by the metals & mining sector, with the RTS Metals & Mining Index gaining 15.80%. A significant increase was also shown by the power and financial sectors, with the RTS Electric Utilities Index and RTS Finances Index adding 11.22% and 8.84% respectively.

Last week the US dollar depreciated by 2.69% against the ruble to reach 29.43 rubles per US dollar (30.24 rubles as of December 31, 2009).

The total securities trading volume on RTS for the week January 11 – January 15, 2009 equaled USD11.04 billion (327.06 billion rubles*), including all types of trades. The trading volume on RTS Standard totaled USD1,676.16 million.

The week's top sellers were Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) with a turnover of USD876.23 million followed by Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) with a turnover of USD418.28 million and ordinary shares of ОАО "LUKOIL" (LKOH) with a turnover of USD92.59 million. The share of each security in the total trading volume made up 49.77%, 23.76% and 5.26% respectively.

The week's top gainers were ordinary shares of JSC "Severstal" (CHMF) that went up by 40.91% to USD0.56 followed by ordinary shares of "Nizhhnekamskneftekhim" INC (NKNC) – by 30.23% to USD11.893 and ordinary shares of JSC "IDGC Holding" (MRKH) – by 24.10% to reach USD0.1375.

The week's top losers were ordinary shares of GAZ (GAZA) that fell in price by 2.17% to reach USD22.
