OREANDA-NEWS. January 19, 2010. According to the National Bank of Moldova, as compared with the same period of 2008 (US1 billion 516.43 million), it had reduced by US 456.55 million or 30.1%.

At the same time, US 880.88 million (83.1%) of the total transfers in January-November 2009 was sent through the fast money transfers system. In particular, transfers in October totaled US 102.18 million, decreasing in comparison with October of the last year (US 112.76 million) by 9,4%.

In the structure of currency remittances in November 2009, 53.2% accounted for dollar, 41,5% - for euro and 5,3% for the Russian ruble. The largest amount has been transferred in September 2009 - US 114.27 million, the lowest - in January - US 64.3 million. The volume of remittances in I quarter totaled US 225.69 million, in II quarter - US 289.03 million, in the III quarter - US 331.53 million.

As it was informed before, in 2008 remittances to Moldova from individuals from abroad through commercial banks amounted to US 1 billion 660.06 million, increasing by 36,3% over the previous year. The largest amount of remittances was sent to Moldova from Russia and Italy. According to the World Bank, Moldovan guest workers’ remittances make up about one third of the country’s GDP.
