EU Funds Two Projects in Chisinau
OREANDA-NEWS. January 15, 2010. The projects are related with the ongoing climate change and are the result of successful tripartite cooperation between the EU, Moldova and Ukraine – said at the press conference on Thursday the head of the European Union Delegation in Moldova, the Ambassador Dirk Schuebel. According to Dirk Schuebel, the first project will be implemented in cities of Chisinau and Odessa, the second – in Chisinau and Sevastopol.
The cost of the first project is 810 thousand euros, of which the Chisinau City Hall will receive about 752 thousand euros of the total budget. The project will be implemented within 24 months. The project "rain sewage system, promotion and implementation of innovative measures in connection with the climate change" within the frameworks of the program “Non-state structures and local authorities in favor of development" includes the construction of the station to collect rainwater in Chisinau and restore the site of the existing network of the rain sewage system as a measure of protection against floods.
Also, the project aims to reduce the negative effects of torrential rains and floods by improving the systems of evacuation of rainwater, cleaning storm drains and sending them into the natural pools, as well as optimization of urban transport through rehabilitation of problematic sections of roads. Another project, attracted by Chisinau City Hall, is "Growth of energy efficiency of municipality" within CIUDAD program, funded by European Commission. Its main goal is to save heat and power in Chisinau municipality.
The project aims at development of energy efficiency strategies in the municipality of Chisinau and optimization of the legislative framework for creating conditions for investments in energy efficiency measures. The European Ambassador noted that in order to promote good practices in the field of energy conservation it is planned to organize annual competition for schools of the capital and the school-winner will receive 100 thousand euros for thermal insulation of buildings.
At the same time, it is planned to develop 3-technical research and investment plans for infrastructure development projects: the isolation of residential buildings, street lighting and use of the renewable energy. The total project budget is about 673 thousand euros. The Chisinau City Hall will receive 366 thousand euros of the total budget. The project will be implemented within 28 months. The EU will provide financial assistance in form of the grant.
