NBM Currency Reserves Decreased by USD 192,16 mln in 2009
OREANDA-NEWS. January 15, 2010. According to the National Bank of Moldova, a sharp decline in NBM currency reserves was registered in the first half of 2009. During the first six months NBM' s currency reserves fell by US462.34 million, amounting by late June 2009 to about US 1 billion 210.07 million.
In the second half of the year, currency reserves have increased. So, as of September 30, 2009, they already made up US 1 billion 290,5 million. More substantial increase in currency reserves was registered in the last two months of the last year. For example, in November 2009, currency reserves have increased by US 71.9 million - up to US 1 billion 374,5 million, in December – by US 105.74 million – up to US 1 billion 480.25 million.
Earlier IMF predicted that in 2009 Moldova's currency reserves would fall by US 396 million (23.7%) and would amount to US 1 billion, 276 million by the end of the year. In 2008, Moldova's currency reserves increased by US 338.72 million, or by 25, 4%, amounting to approximately US 1 billion 333.68 million by early 2008.
Absolute historical maximum of US 1.8 billion was registered in late September 2008, but then they began to decrease after the onset of the global financial crisis.
