Murmansk CSP Reports 4% Throughput Rise in 2009
OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2010. Freight turnover at the Murmansk Commercial Seaport (MCSP) grew by 4% compared with the same period in 2008 - to more than 15 million tons, a recorded volume handled by the company ever. According to provisional data of the Port Authority, the volume of export commodities amounted to 14.39 million tons, including coal - 12.16 million tones, apatite - 1.66 million tons. The overall volume of transshipment of cabotage cargoes is said to be 517.000 tons, as well as 95.6 thousand tons of import cargoes.
In 2009 the port handled 506 ships, including 220 coal bulk carriers and 210.246 thousand rail cars, 174.187 thousand cars of them coal laden.
The previous maximum for MCSP turnover rate at 14.556 million tons was reported in 2005.
"Murmansk Commercial Sea Port" JSC was founded in 1994 based on a former state-owned enterprise. The port is the fourth Russian largest port in throughput volumes the second largest port of the North-West Russia (following St. Petersburg port). It has 17 berths of total length roughly 3.000 meters
