KfW to Increase Financing of Water Project in Azerbaijan
OREANDA-NEWS. January 14, 2010. In December, the Azerbaijani and the German governments agreed on expansion of financing of the project.
“In this connection, KfW will increase its loan for aims of the project,” a source said. Presently, tender is held to choose a contractor to carry out work in these cities.
The interested claimants have started submitting their bids. An interest was displayed by both local and foreign companies.
Technical consultant of the project and developer of tender documentation Swiss company Colenco Power Engineering Ltd. submitted packages with tender documentation to customer Azersu OJSC and financing side KFW.
Documentation was presented by three packages – on water-supply of Ganja, on water-supply of Sheki and on waste-water treatment facilities in Sheki. Azersu and KFW are considering the submitted packages.
Submission of documents for choice of project contractors was expected already in August. A tender procedure for contractor was planned to be announced in September in order to achieve conclusion of a contract in November.
Earlier the tender for project general contractor was scheduled for mid-2009.
The project technical consultant is Switzerland’s Colenco Power Engineering Ltd.
The project includes rehabilitation of water-supply and sewage systems in Ganja and Sheki. Cost of the 2nd stage first phase (3/5-4 years) was initially coordinated at the level of ? 54 million, including ? 37 million (? 25.85 million of the new credit and balance from a similar project in Imishli) to be financed by KfW, ? 10 million as a grant by SECO and ? 7 million by the Azerbaijani government. Total cost of reconstruction of Ganja and Sheki water-supply and sewage systems to last until 2030 was estimated at ? 80-100 million. During the 2nd stage Azersu’s (Azerbaijan State Water Company) subsidiaries Ganjasu and Shekisu to fulfill project works can be privatized within the frames of second phase of the stage.
