OREANDA-NEWS. January 12, 2010. New generation Blu-ray media with higher sound and picture quality enters the home video market. To keep up with technological revolution Mosfilm has launched a large-scale project to release movies by the film concern on Blu-ray discs.  Ward No 6, a new motion picture by Karen Shakhnazarov, happened to be the the Mosfilm’sfirst movie published in this new format.

‘We release Ward No 6 in Blu-ray formatin cooperation with Digital Element company’, - speaks Vladimir Petrovich Ryasov, Deputy General Director of Mosfilm Concern. – The released was preceded by immense work connected with translation of the movie into HD (High Definition) format. We made colour correction of the motion picture, recorded the sound using a new format, synchronized it with image and got a totally new image quality‘.

The unique feature of Blu-ray format is that the picture is recoded to the medium using a blue ray laser (this explains the name). This ray is very thin thus allowing increasing the recording density by several times and obtaining a higher quality picture.

The already restored motion pictures such as ‘Mirror’, ‘Star’, ballet-movie ‘Spartacus’, ‘We are from Jazz’ are projected to be published in Blu-ray format in the first place. This work still continues. Recently Moslfilm has finished the restoration of ‘Andrew Rublev’, ‘A Man from the Boulevard des Capuchines’, and currently works on ‘The Tale of Tsar Saltan’. The release of  ‘They fought for Motherland’ will be dedicated to 65th anniversary of Victory in WWII. Movies on Blu-ray discs will be coming into market as the work advances.
