OREANDA-NEWS. January 5, 2010. In accordance with requirements of legal acts of the European Union (EU) on electricity market liberalization, operation licenses have been issued to the unbundled newly established daughter companies of Lietuvos Energija. LITGRID UAB was issued a license of electricity transmission system operator, BALTPOOL UAB – a license of market operator.

Issuing of license ensures that from January 1, 2010 Lietuvos Energija will transfer its former functions of the transmission system operator and market operator to daughter companies, - said Mr. Aloyzas Koryzna, Chief Executive Officer of Lietuvos Energija.  I assure you that these changes will not have any impact on electricity supply to consumers and will not undermine the interests of electricity consumers.”

Lietuvos Energija AB continues to function as the owner of electricity transmission grid. Lietuvos Energija AB and LITGRID UAB have signed an agreement, based on which LITGRID UAB for temporary control and use takes over the high-voltage electricity transmission grid and other electric equipment designated to transmit electricity.  Under this agreement the services of maintenance and operation of the electricity transmission grid will be provided by Lietuvos Energija.

From January 1, 2010 BALTPOOL UAB will perform the functions of electricity market operator, ensure operation of the country’s electricity exchange and organize electricity trade in Lithuania.
