Turkmenistan Proved Huge Hydrocarbon Resources in Eastern Part
OREANDA-NEWS. December 28, 2009. A thick gas discharge received from a new exploratory well in Yashlar field is another evidence of an abundance of hydrocarbon resources in the eastern part of Turkmenistan. This well is located nearby the largest South Yoloten-Osman field, the huge reserves of ‘blue fuel’ of which have drawn worldwide response.
According to the Turkmengeologiya State Concern, the depth of the new drilled well in Yashlar field is over 5,000 metres. A gas stream was first received at a depth interval of 4,850-4,816 metres of carbonat-riche sediments of the Callovian - Oxford Clay Age.
It should be noted that Turkmen geologists have predicted the presence of large natural gas accumulations at this depth. However, this salt layer 700 metres thick with the high pressure and was has been a formidable obstacle for drill men. By using latest drilling technologies based on the accurate calculations Turkmen specialists managed to draw this difficult salt section and reach the required depth.
According to geologists, one of the important results of successful drilling is that they struck completely the calcareous layer of the Callovian-Oxford Clay Age that is 624 metres thick. The development survey carried out in the well vividly illustrate that the drill core is filled with natural gas.
At present, test works are carried on in the well. It is planned to measure gas flow rates at the branch sockets.
In the near future Turkmengeologiya specialists will accelerate prospecting work on the structures Pioner, Juvandepe and Garitli located near Yashlar field. Moreover, it is planned to carry out exploration works in the Western Yandakly, Yandakly and Elchilik deposits to reveal interconnection between largest Southern Yoloten-Osman and Yashlar gas fields.
The effective exploration works in Yashlar, South Yoloten-Osman and other fields vividly demonstrate that due to the overall support of the President of Turkmenistan for oil and gas industry and by using advanced technologies and equipment Turkmen geologists reach new heights in discovering once out-of-reach treasures of the Turkmen land.
The new energy strategy implemented in Turkmenistan on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is aimed at diversifying transit of energy to the world markets. Putting the Trans-Asian gas pipeline that will supply Turkmen gas to China within 30 years into operation is a historic stage of the successful implementation of this strategy. The second export pipeline to neighbouring Iran will be put into operation. In the near future it planned to pursue gas pipeline projects along other export routes.
Therefore, the priority tasks set by the President of Turkmenistan to oil and gas industry workers include the accelerated development and putting into production of the gas fields discovered. These huge resources will allow Turkmenistan that is viewed by the international community as an initiator of reliable and safe energy supplies to guarantee long-term ‘blue fuel’ export via all the existing and projected gas pipelines.
