OREANDA-NEWS. December 25, 2009. The decision to liberalize import of meat and meat products was passed today by the Government by approving amendments to the legislation in force.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Valeriu Cosarcic told journalists that according to the approved decree, the former quota system of import of meat and meat products and import of meat under special permissions would be cancelled in Moldova.

At the same time, to protect local meat producers and consumers, Moldovan authorities plan to apply some instruments, in particular, to limit price markup for meat, fixing it on the level of maximum 20 percent, as well as to increase customs duties on meat and meat products import from 200 to 450 euros for a tone.
