OREANDA-NEWS. December 17, 2009. Head of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov received heads of Kalevala group carrying out one of the largest investment projects of the decade in the republic. It is the project of construction of a wood-working complex producing of oriented strand boards. From well-known wood chipboards they mostly differ because their chips are oriented, that with use of special resins makes boars extremely hard, water resistant and gives them other qualities necessary in construction, making of furniture and finishing materials. This production will be unique not only in Karelia, but also in Russia.

After rather long preparatory period the Kalevala factory project today is ready to be launched. Heads of the company have come to the Head of the Republic to inform on it. According to the project the factory will be located near the settlement of Meliorativny and the station of Tomitsy. Its designed capacity makes 500,000 cubic metres of boards a year. Construction will take 27 months. By the fourth quarter of 2012 it is supposed to carry out trial product release, and by the beginning of 2015 to come up to full capacity. Total amount of investments in the Republic of Karelia within the scope of the project will make 244,000,000 € that in the current prices makes more than 10 billion roubles.

Making comments on the project, Sergey Katanandov has told the company directors:

– You understand that we need this factory perhaps even more than to you do. For the republic it means not only workplaces. It is also an opportunity to participate in perspective programs of wooden houses construction and a huge step to complete processing of our timber within our territory to which we are actively pushed by the policy of the president and the prime minister. Therefore, you may be sure that we shall do everything to support the project, to help its implementation, to solve all tasks emerging…

Head of the Republic is personally supervising the course of implementation of the investment project. By the way, at his participation at a federal level there have already been solved many tasks which facilitate and reduce the price of construction of the factory. In particular, it was possible to achieve exemption from VAT for equipment imported into the country for the factory. Sergey Katanandov has also guaranteed the investors that issues of provision of the factory with raw materials, land acquisition, construction of infrastructural objects will be solved in the regular course of work. If everything goes as expected, the foundation stone in construction of the factory will be laid on the eve of the 90th anniversary of the republic by the next summer.
