OREANDA-NEWS. December 17, 2009. Due to the detailed and convincing report by the Russian delegation, Moscow has been selected to host the 14th International Conference on Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (XIV ICCCBE) in 2012.
Decision on selecting Moscow was made during the XII ICCCBE in Beijing, China. It was one of the issues on a very rich agenda of the conference. Russia, represented by Moscow, made a bid for the right to host the XIV ICCCBE along with Brazil and the USA.
The presentations concerning this subject were being discussed for roughly three hours. Russia was presented by Svetlana Bachurina, first deputy head of Coordinating Body for Associate Board of Architecture, Construction, Development and Reconstruction of Moscow, information systems chief designer of Construction Complex of Moscow, doctor of economics.
When the organizing committee had finished the discussion, the opinions on the venue for the XIV ICCCBE were divided between Russia and the USA. So, the committee members voted in a secret ballot and Moscow gained a 6-4 victory due to which the Russian capital will host the conference on computing in civil and building engineering in 2012.
The XIV ICCCBE will be traditionally organized by the International Society for Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (ISCCBE) aimed at integrating the largest cities of the world in a uniform system of the construction-related information, exchanging the development experience and computing in civil and building engineering. The ISCCBE also pays a great attention to the work with the students, invites the young experts and scientists.
The first International Conference on Computing in Civil and Building Engineering was held in New York, the USA, in 1981.
The XII ICCCBE having run in Beijing provided a unique opportunity for the professionals and researchers who were interested in computing in a wide range of civil and building engineering disciplines to come together. It facilitated them to learn, share and exchange about the latest developments and research in this fast pace field.
The conference in China involved more than 350 representatives of 46 countries. The Russian delegation consisted of the specialists from the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, Moskomarkhitektura, Autodesk, Russian SAPR group of companies and JSC Systems and Projects.
According to Ms Bachurina, the Russian delegation achieved a number of the concrete results during the XII ICCCBE.
First of all, Moscow has been selected to host the XIV ICCCBE in 2012. The Russian capital will have to report on the preparation for the conference in 2010 when the XIII ICCCBE is being held in the UK.
Secondly, there was evidence of a heightened interest both in the works by the Russian scientists introduced at the conference and to a level of professional competence in the colleges of civil engineering in Russia, including the computing.
The other result of no small importance was the fact that a number of foreign experts from the well-known universities showed an interest for collaborating with the institutes of Russia in the spheres of science and education.
But the development of this collaboration is a matter of time, including the time Moscow has to get ready for running the XIV ICCCBE.
