OREANDA-NEWS. December 15, 2009. COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading provider of integrated telecommunication services in Russia and the CIS, announces the launch of ColibriComstar – its own netbook with the unique set of up-to-date technologies for wireless broadband Internet access. ColibriComstar buyers will be offered special terms for connection to the mobile Internet in WiMAX network of COMSTAR and 2G/3G mobile networks of MTS.

The mobile computer (netbook) is specially developed for COMSTAR-UTS. For today, it is a unique device on the Russian market combining several wireless technologies in built-in WiMAX, 3G, HSDPA/GPRS/EDGE and Wi-Fi modules. Advanced memory technologies ensure lower weight (935 g) and extended operation in wireless networks with no additional charging. All these features make the device a truly versatile means of communication that enables user to stay online, moving from coverage area of one wireless network to that of another.

To promote the new product, COMSTAR-UTS has developed a special brand, ComstarColibri, to emphasize all the advantages specific for the netbook, i.e. light weight, mobility, ease of use, and bright individual style.

ColibriComstar will be available bundled with a year-long subscription for mobile Internet rated under a special unlimited price plan – WiMAX-Colibri. The cost of the netbook bundled with the service makes 23,900 rubles. Additionally, ColibriComstar buyers will be able to use MTS’ OnLiner price plan with 1 GB of pre-paid Internet traffic on special terms.

ColibriComstar is based on the 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z270 processor, has built-in SSD with 16 GB capacity and 1 GB of RAM. Having modest dimensions (275x179x19.7 mm), the netbook has a 10.1" LCD with a resolution of 1024x576. An important functional add-on is a built-in 0.3 MP webcam and a microphone.

“The launch of the netbook with built-in WiMAX and 3G modules once again proves one of the main principles of our strategy on the broadband market, i.e. combining various technologies that complement each other,” Sergey Pridantsev, COMSTAR-UTS President, says. “We believe that subscribers shall be capable to access the Internet using the best technology depending on the location. The objective of the operator is to provide the users with the versatile service featuring the highest QoS at an optimum price.”

“Netbooks is quite a new segment on the laptop market, getting its shape today. The built-in support of Internet access technologies is one of the most important functions and one of the choice criteria. It is this feature that makes these devices truly mobile. So, we've made a decision to offer our customers our own netbook – ColibriComstar bundled with the Internet service,” Alexander Gorbunov, Vice President for Strategy and Development of COMSTAR-UTS, adds.

ColibriComstar is expected to become available at COMSTAR (STREAM) own Sales & Customer Care Offices in Moscow and at MTS retail chain stores before the end of 2009.
