OREANDA-NEWS. December 08, 2009. The MICEX has hosted the conference “Development of Internet Trading in the Stock Market”. Ten years ago the MICEX launched its Internet gateway, which started the development of on-exchange Internet trading in Russia. The Internet gateway enabled to connect the MICEX trading complex with broker systems serving investors through remote terminals using Internet technologies.

The conference was attended by representatives of brokerages and investment companies, as well as IT companies-developers of software complexes for exchange and broker systems.

In his welcoming remarks President of the MICEX Konstantin Korischenko said: “Today, the Internet gateway is the main means of access and the main mechanism for implementing trading opportunities. The time is at hand when new technological solutions will enable us to see even more business activity in the market, even more liquidity and an even greater number of participants not only from all over Russia, but from all over the world.”

The pilot connection of broker systems via the gateway was made in November 1999. It was a technological breakthrough in the organization of on-exchange trading. The launch of the gateway laid the foundations of high-tech development for years ahead.

The Exchange focuses on two main areas: improving operational reliability and increasing the speed of processing orders. Three years ago a new technology was developed to connect Internet trading systems using hardware firewalls Cisco PIX. Compared with the use of COM-ports, the new technology helped to increase the efficiency of information processing by more than one-third. Recently, the MICEX FIX Gateway service has been launched. The use of FIX Protocol will help to separate information flows and immediately send participants messages about each event associated with orders entered.

Today, the MICEX has one of the most advanced electronic trading and clearing systems in the world. The telecommunication network of the complex is provided by leading providers of network services and covers the whole territory of Russia. Each day the MICEX trading complex registers up to 2 million orders and 800 thousand transactions. Its capacity is constantly growing with the growth of liquidity of the stock market.

As a high-tech exchange, the MICEX implements new software and hardware solutions and upgrades existing products. The gateway gives participants new opportunities to optimize the speed of their work with market and use the systems of algorithmic trading. Along with other subsystems of the technological infrastructure of the Exchange (such as access servers) the universal gateway enables the MICEX one of the leading providers of high-quality services to domestic and foreign investors.

Over 10 years of active use of gateways the number of registered investors has increased 40 times. Today over 450 broker systems are connected to the MICEX trading complex through universal gateways. They help to serve investors through remote terminals using Internet technologies. 95% of transactions in the MICEX markets are conducted on orders entered via the MICEX gateways.

A number of global providers of trading solutions for broker companies and banks (GL Trade, ORC Software, ION Trading) have used the possibility of connecting their products to the MICEX trading system, which greatly considerably facilitates the access of foreign participants to the MICEX markets.
