Russia Demonstrates Inflation Decrease
OREANDA-NEWS. December 04, 2009. Rosstat published preliminary November inflation figures (CPI). In line with our expectations, MoM number was 0.3%, as compared with 0.8% for November 2008, reported the press-centre of OTKRITIE FC.
Thus, annual inflation has declined and can now be estimated at 9.3%, rather than the 9.7% figure posted in October. The highest point for inflation this year was in March, when it reached 14%.
View: We regard decreasing inflation as positive for several reasons. First of all, lower inflation cushions the slump in real incomes thereby easing social tensions and supporting consumer demand. Second, continued disinflation makes further cuts in interest rates both possible and desirable.
