OREANDA-NEWS. November 26, 2009. KAZAKHMYS PLC, common shares of which are present in Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) official list, provided to KASE the following press release, reported the press-centre of KASE:

Power unit #5 of Ekibastuz GRES-1, a member of Kazakhmys Group, was put into operation after the main and auxiliary equipment reconstruction and modernization. Power unit #5 was removed of service for repair from April 2009.

Investments amount made up KZT3.9 bn. 35 Kazakhstan and foreign subcontractors in total about 800 people worked on the project, which allowed increasing the power station capacity to 2450 МВт.

The Group Energy Department Director Nikolai Korobovskiy said: "We proudly announce the readiness of Ekibastuz power station for operation in 5 unit mode. We expect that the demand for power will increase and today we invest to the power station modernization and reconstruction to ensure future power needs of the country".
