OREANDA-NEWS. November 25, 2009. The most popular sparkling wine among the Ukrainians, the Sovetskoye Shampanskoye produced by Kiev Factory of Sparkling Wines, was awarded with Lev Golitsyn silver medal at ‘Novyi Svit-2009’ International competition of sparkling wines that took place on October 8 – 10 in the village of Novyi Svit. Thirty enterprises from Ukraine, Russia, Belorussia, Latvia, Moldova, Georgia, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, and Romania (15 countries altogether) participated in the competition. All in all, the judges were presented with 79 samples.

The panel of judges included independent experts-vinters and noted coopers from many countries around the world, and Yann Juban, oenologist known around the world, winemaking expert and assistant to Federico Castellucci Director General of the OIV, who officially supervised Competition compliance with the International Organisation of Vine and Wine standards, was among them. In addition, samples manufactured by Henkell&Co Corporation, which membership KFSW enjoys since 2007, was given an independent evaluation. Thus, medals and honorary diplomas were conferred on Alfred Gratien TM (France), Fuerst von Metternich ТМ (Germany), and Torley TM (Hungary).
