The number of UTK’s broadband users has reached half a million.  Compared to the year-earlier period the operator’s broadband Internet subscriber base has surged approximately 70%.  Thus, over the past year the operator’s Internet subscriber base has added roughly 200,000 users.  In addition, new broadband Internet connections surged 30% in 2009.

The company began providing high-speed Internet access using хDSL technology in  2005, and this became the platform for rolling out broadband Internet up until this year.  Cut the operator’s approach to technology has changed rapidly as of late, as one of its competitive advantages is the ability to provide connectivity using Ethernet to the home, FTTx and GPON cable technologies.

First and foremost, UTK will be providing broadband Internet using fiber optic cable technology in areas marked by fierce competition.  Thus, by the end of 2009, 160 high-rise buildings in Rostov-on-Don and other towns and villages in the region will receive FTTx connectivity.  In order to fortify its positions on Russia’s highly competitive broadband Internet market in 2010 UTK intends to install fiber optic connections at over 1,500 apartment buildings located in Rostov and the surrounding region.  The total amount investments in broadband Internet technology in the Rostov region stands at approximately RUR 232 mln.  On the whole, the company expects to allocate about 30% of its investments to rolling out high-speed access networks, for a total of roughly RUR 4.3 bln.
