OREANDA-NEWS. November 24, 2009. KAZAKHMYS PLC, common shares of which are listed on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE), issued a press release, reported the press-centre of KASE:

The Kazakhmys Group approved the budget for implementation of the project to reconstruct power cell No. 8 of Ekibastuz GRES-1 for a total of USD160 m in order to boost power station capacity from 2,500 to 3,000 MW. The project will be implemented by 2013.                                                           

This is the key energy project, which will allow for meeting growing domestic power demand. The power station will be potentially modified to boost larger capacities up to 4,000 MW. The reconstruction of power cell No. 8 will involve repairs of equipment, inspection, replacement and repairs of the main parts of the boiler and turbine, installation of electric equipment, pipelines and electrical filters, and fitting with up-to-date automatic controls equipment. The program and calculation of the project costs were prepared with account to overhaul repairs at power cells No. 4 and No. 5 in 2008-2009.

"We are very much delighted to see the power station modified more powerful and believe this is just a beginning. We much work ahead and our team will manage to do all at the highest level. GRES-1 will contribute largely to develop energetical potential of our country, taking care of the regional environment", - Energy Director of the Group N. Korobovskiy said.
