OREANDA-NEWS. November 19, 2009. Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev took part in opening of Sumgait combined cycle electric generating plant.

According to President of national energy operator of the country Azerenerji OJSC Etibar Pirvardiyev the plant, which was laid in 2005  has capacity of  525 MW.

In accordance with prognoses of specialists, annual production of Sumgait plant will make 3.8 bn kWh with expenses of 230 grammes of fuel for 1 kWh of electric power. Demand for gas fuel will total 100,000 cu m  per hour or 630 million cu m  per year.

Siemens is general contractor on construction project of the  cycle electric generating plant. In May, 2005, the contract worth ? 257 million was signed under the terms of handing-over “key-in-the-door” with Siemens. A cost of the project is ? 350 million. Financing was organized by Bayerische landesbank.
