Yaroslavl Branch of JSC Freight One Optimizes Freight Traffic
OREANDA-NEWS. November 18, 2009. Freight One is optimizing its haulage operations to reduce the railcar turnover time and minimize costs.
Thanks to the agreements reached between JSC Severstal, JSC Russian Railways and the Yaroslavl branch of JSC Freight One, most empty open wagons are returned after being unloaded from stations on the Cherepovetsky hub via routes not commonly used for public transport.
“The introduction of this technology is of benefit to all parties involved. As such, JSC Freight One is reducing its railcar turnover time to increase the efficiency of its rolling-stock, cut haulage costs and hence make additional profit. This will decrease the load on Russian Railways’ infrastructure. For JSC Severstal and enterprises serviced by the Cherepovetsky railway hub, given the lack of open wagons the use of this technology can, by freeing up rolling-stock, increase haulage volumes of ferrous metals, chemicals, construction materials, coke and granulated slag,” commented Yuri Shifrin, director of the Yaroslavl branch of JSC Freight One.
Mutual cooperation has brought obvious results. For example, in Q3’2009 haulage of ferrous metals in JSC Freight One railcars along the Northern railway increased by a factor of 2.5 against Q2, haulage of coke doubled and haulage of granular slag increased by a factor of 4.7.
