EIB Ready to Back Reforms Launched by New Moldovan Authorities
OREANDA-NEWS. November 16, 2009. Prime Minister Vlad Filat had a business breakfast with the president of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Philippe Maystadt. The meeting took place in Bucharest, where the prime minister participates in the Summit of Heads of Government of the Central European Initiative, the government's press service has said.
The officials discussed aspects related to the assistance the EIB had supplied to Moldova and possibilities of developing cooperation.
Filat informed the EIB president about the fact that after the latest parliamentary elections, a democratic government came to power in Moldova, committing to promote deep reforms. At the same time, the prime minister said that these changes need support, including from abroad.
Vlad Filat said that Moldova would like to cooperate with the EIB to develop infrastructure, energy sector, water supply, etc.
The premier expressed regret that the previous Moldovan government missed important projects that the EIB had been willing to finance.
Vlad Filat assured Philippe Maystadt that Moldova would be a correct partner and would ensure maximum transparency and efficiency in the implementation of projects backed from abroad.
Philippe Maystadt said that the EIB is ready to back the changes initiated by the new government. In the context he pointed out the EIB's rich experience in infrastructure projects.
The official said that the EIB is open to cooperation with Moldova and that specific aspects of cooperation would be specified subsequently.
