Ashgabat to Host First CIS Agricultural Forum
OREANDA-NEWS. November 11, 2009. In the second half of November Ashgabat will host the first forum of agricultural producers from the CIS states. The forum will be held on the initiative of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. For three days the Turkmen capital will become the centre of the business dialogue, which will involve the representatives of the authoritative international organisations including ICARDA (International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas), CIMMYT (International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center), the EU TACIS programme. The organizers of the forum are the agro-industry ministries and departments and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.
According to the Resolution of President of Turkmenistan the agenda of the forum, which will take place from November 25 to 27 includes the agricultural exhibition, scientific conference and a series of the business meetings. In Ashgabat dozens of the companies are expected to showcase their achievements – from new crop varieties to state-of-the-art equipment and advanced technologies applied in various sectors of agribusiness.
The well-known scientists will make the reports on the recent results of agricultural research and practical application of scientific advances at the conference on the Challenges to Sustainable Development of the Agricultural Sector in the CIS Countries in Modern Conditions.
The prospects for cooperation on development and application of innovative technologies and know-how in agricultural production and processing, delivery of machinery and equipment, efficient use of biological resources and other topical issues of collaboration will be the focus of a thorough discussion during the business forums and talks. The CIS Intergovernmental Council for Agricultural Affairs will conduct an enlarged meeting in the Turkmen capital.
Turkmenistan will be represented at the forum by the agro-industry ministries and departments and the private sector that is actively encouraged in the country. Turkmen manufacturers will demonstrate their potential: from agricultural raw materials to finished products to the colleagues and potential partners from the CIS states.
As is known, encouragement and technology modernization of the agro-industrial sector is a key trend of the large-scale agricultural reforms implemented in Turkmenistan under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. A priority of the reform is to develop mutually advantageous cooperation and foster an intensive exchange of experiences with foreign partners. In this context the largest forum in Ashgabat opens up the excellent opportunities to establish fruitful contacts in a wide range of the sectors: agriculture and cattle raising, seed farming and breeding, scientific advances including manufacture of agricultural machinery and equipment and production distribution.
Thus, the upcoming forum will be an opportunity to learn about the agricultural potential of each participating country, the trends and priorities for development of the agro-industry sector in the Commonwealth of Independent States and to receive the first-hand information.
