OREANDA-NEWS. November 10, 2009. In Tashkent, Uzbekistan took place the meeting of Railway Transport Council, which was attended also by the delegation from State Joint Stock Company “Latvijas dzelzcels” (LDz). The delegation members were: Mr. Ugis Magonis, Chairman of the Board, Mr. Eriks Smuksts, Member of the Board, and Mrs. Regina Svirska, Communication Director. During the meeting in Tashkent it was decided that the 52nd meeting of Railway Transport Council will take place in May 2010 in Riga, reported the press-centre of LDz.

The meeting was attended not only by the CEOs of railway companies of 1520mm gauge area and other high representatives, but also by Mr. Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, Director General of the International Union of Railways (UIC).

During the session LDz representatives had several bilateral meetings on further cooperation issues. The contract was signed between LDz and Belarusian Railway for prolongation of the commenced infrastructure improvement works at the border.

At the end of the meeting participants signed a common protocol. One of the points in the protocol concerns a proposal to UIC to establish the Russian language as one of the working languages in UIC.

LDz Chairman of the Board Ugis Magonis and CEO of Belarusian Railway Anatoly Sivak signed a contract on continuation of cooperation.
