GRP of Karakalpakstan Grows by 4%
OREANDA-NEWS. November 10, 2009. The results of the socioeconomic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan were considered at the session held in Nukus.
According to the presented data, the gross regional product in the first nine months of 2009 increased by 4%. Consumer goods production grew by 7.2%, construction works by 26.8%, and service sector by 13.5%.
Thanks to modernization and re-equipment of enterprises, the volume of direct investments in the region’s economy increased twice compared to the same period of 2008.
A total of 37 enterprises were launched in the sectors of light industry, food industry and construction materials production sector.
In the reporting period, almost 37,200 new workplaces were created.
4 colleges, 1 academic lyceum and 6 schools were built, 2 colleges and 74 schools were repaired in the three quarters of this year.
Besides, 233.5 km of water pipelines and 45.5 km of gas pipelines were laid in this period.
Using the preferential credit of Qishloq Qurilish Bank, construction of new rural housing started in Nukus, Kungrad, Kegeyli, Ellikkala and Hojeyli districts (20 houses in each district).
