Volga Shipping Closes Passenger Navigation
OREANDA-NEWS. November 09, 2009. Volga Shipping closed passenger navigation on rivers and lakes of European Russia. Since April to October 2009, passenger boats of Volga Shipping conveyed 34,000 passengers.
The passenger traffic on the local and suburban lines dropped by half in comparison with 2008 and totaled to 56.000 passengers. The slowdown was caused by a late local and suburban navigation start and growth of alternative means of passenger transport in the region.
Passenger cruise liners of Volga Shipping carried 224,000 passengers (-11% of 2008).
Pleasure boating traffic on board Volga Shipping boats within premises of Nizhny Novgorod grew by 8% and came to 68,000 passengers.
This year, 27 passenger boats of Volga Shipping worked on river cruising routes in the Central and North-Western territories of Russia. The “Otdykh-1” and two “Moskva” type boats ply on the Volga pleasure boating lines in Nizhny Novgorod. On the local and suburban lines, Volga Shipping operates the “OM” and “Voskhod” boats.
