OREANDA-NEWS. November 09, 2009. This decision was adopted during the meeting of inter-ministerial Strategic Planning Committee, chaired by the Prime Minister Vladimir Filat.

The prime minister said that raising excise taxes on wine-made products is inexpedient because of the difficult situation in viticulture and wine industry. The Premier also noted that in this way consumption of wine can be stimulated, thus reducing the consumption of strong alcoholic drinks. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Valeriu Cosarciuc noted that every year 60 million bottles of strong alcoholic beverages and only 4 million bottles of wine are consumed in Moldova.

During the meeting, Vladimir Filat has charged those responsible to take measures on preventing production and sales of counterfeit products. Inter-Ministerial Strategic Planning Committee has also decided to apply the excises on cigarettes, depending on the category. At the same time, the Committee has decided that the price of the insurance policy will grow gradually, starting with 2010, when it will be increased by 0,1%.

The Inter-Ministerial Strategic Planning Committee has also adopted a number of solutions to increase transparency in the field of fiscal control. Earlier, the Prime Minister stated that according to funding agreement with IMF, in 2010 the excise taxes on gasoline-by 7,5%, tobacco products-by 10%, alcohol - 4%, cosmetic products -15% and luxury cars - 20% will be raised. Referring to the luxury cars, the Premier said that the accounting base will include both the volume of cylinders and the price of the car.

The Prime Minister also noted that the increase in the excise tax would increase the fiscal revenue by 500 million leis, or 0.8% of GDP.
