Baltic International Bank Organized Business Conference in London
OREANDA-NEWS. October 30, 2009. Business Conference "Latvia: More Than You Would Expect" was held in London. The main objective of the conference was to enhance Latvia’s image abroad by providing UK opinion makers (business sector and media) with a better understanding of business environment in Latvia and by highlighting Latvia’s export success stories. The conference was organized by The British Chamber of Commerce in Latvia (BBCL) in co-operation with Baltic International Bank, reported the press-centre of Baltic International Bank.
"It is essential for Latvian enterprises that are exporting their services overseas to obtain encouragement and support in their home country and to find reliable foreign partners. Therefore, the public sphere is a forum where it is important to seize every opportunity to communicate at both the official and private levels and to share information, positive experiences and innovative ideas," Chairperson of Baltic International Bank Ilona Gulchak emphasized. "Being present in both Eastern and Western markets and communicating with representatives of various businesses, we have concluded that factors, such as a favourable geographical location of Latvia and its capital Riga, Latvia’s membership in the European Union, and awareness about opportunities of doing business with CIS members, are not used to full extent. We therefore feel the need to get proactively involved in organising the conference in London," I. Gulchak underscored.
Conference "Latvia: More Than You Would Expect" was an initiative of Baltic International Bank and was held within the framework of the annual visit of The BBCL delegation to London. Latvia’s business experts familiarised the conference audience with the country’s macroeconomic situation and business opportunities in Latvia. Within the context of Latvia’s export success stories and the description of logistics opportunities and advantageous aspects of Latvian mentality, the conference attendees were explained Latvia’s role as a bridge between Western and Eastern business environments.
Latvian Ambassador to UK Eduards Stiprais, Dr. Antony Stokes, Charge d’Affaires British Embassy Riga, and local authority and former UK Ambassador to Latvia Richard Moon were the conference opening keynote speakers. The conference was moderated by Ojars Kalnins, Director of the Latvian Institute and former Latvian Ambassador to the United States.
I. Gulchak was among the conference speakers. She focused on Topic "Financial Riga - Added Value to Financial Europe" related to the conference theme titled "Latvia: Bridge Between East and West".
