OREANDA-NEWS. October 21, 2009. The operational meeting of the Government of Karelia chaired by the Assistant to the Prime Minister Alexander Kolesov considered results of work of the mining complex of the republic for 9 months of 2009.

Mining complex of the republic includes 53 enterprises with 11,000 employees. Average monthly salary in the branch makes 23 thousand roubles, it remains above the average on the republic.

As the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources of Karelia Alexander Kravchenko has told, the basic enterprise of the branch is Karelsky Okatysh, Inc. In 9 months 2009 Karelsky Okatysh, Inc., produced 5.8 million tons of iron-ore pellets, or 75% to the level of 2008. Management of Karelsky Okatysh, Inc., has adopted the anti-recessionary program and is implementing it.

Within the scope of social partnership there has been concluded the Agreement between the Government of Karelia, Kostomuksha urban district and Karelsky Okatysh, Inc. Under the Agreement the town-forming enterprise is granted profit and property tax privileges, reduced electric and thermal energy rates are established, etc.

The basic share of industrial products produced by enterprises of the mining complex traditionally belongs to iron-ore pellets, however, the share of enterprises profucing building materials increases from year to year.

From the beginning of the year production of block stone has made 18,000 cubic metres, or 95% to the level of 2008, there has been made 7.2 million cubic metres of road metal, that makes 98% to the level of the similar period of the last year.

To stabilize situation in the mining complex, Government of the Republic of Karelia is implementing measures focused on construction of new mining enterprises, creation of workplaces, support of technical and technological modernization of operating enterprises.

In Medvezhiegorsk region when construction of the new Finnish grinding-sorting factory was completed at the enterprise of Lobskoye-5, Inc., production of road metal was resumed since June 1, there work 52 employees, by the end of the year it is supposed to hire 40 employees more.

In March in Muezersky region there have been commissioned 2 modern grinding-sorting complexes – on the site of Rasialampi bowels by the enterprise of Petro-Granite, Inc., and on Ushkalskoye deposit by Sever-Stroy, Inc. 120 new workplaces have been created, volume of investments has made about half a billion roubles.

32 investment projects of building stone extraction for production of road metal are being implemented in the republic today. Volume of investments in mining complex of the republic from the beginning of the year on the operating data has made more than 1,5 billion roubles.
