OREANDA-NEWS. October 20, 2009. IES-Holding “Generation of Urals” Division is actively performing the reconstruction of Kirov CHPP-3 which includes the installation of a modified generator No.6. A new more powerful generator which is to replace the time-expired equipment has modern and the safest cooling system.

As of today IES-Holding “Generation of Urals” Division’s project on reconstruction of Kirov CHPP-3 generator No.6 is being developed by Nizhniy Novgorod specialists and shall be completed by the end of August 2009. The new generator will be delivered to Kirov in the middle of September on a special long wagon called “crocodile” from the production plant in Novosibirsk. 

Before the generator is installed, very serious works on foundation reinforcement shall be executed in a plant. New approach lines will be laid to the place of installation. At the moment these works are underway in full swing.

The weight of the new generator is 95 tons. In order to lift up such a huge cargo Kirov power engineers are making safety arrangements. They have developed the project on reinforcement of crane runways; have purchased a new hoisting crane rope which will be able to withstand such weight. Besides both the new approach lines and the crane will be tested with the special cargos delivered from all IES-Holding “Generation of Urals” Division’s Kirov CHPP’s. 

IES-Holding is planning to complete the reconstruction of Kirov CHPP-3 generator No.6 and to start the pre-commissioning works together with the representatives of the manufacturer. The equipment will be put into operation in the coming year. 

The new 10MW generator is more powerful than the previous one and is equipped with the safer air cooling system instead of the hydrogen one used earlier. This will also contribute to the energy safety of the Region. 

The project cost makes over 150mln rubles.
