OREANDA-NEWS. October 19, 2009. Rosstat published positive industrial figures showing that industrial output declined 9.5% in September and 13.5% for 9M09. Results from all major segments, including mineral extraction, manufacturing and regulated goods production, demonstrated better results than were posted in August, reported the press-centre of OTKRITIE FC.

View: September figures clearly reflect an improvement over previous months: for the first time this year we saw only a single-digit drop, and this was not due to a lower base. One factor is that machine building plants have resumed full operations after their August vacations. The improvement in industry was not unexpected, given previous indications from leading indicators. While September industrial figures are promising, now it is essential to see that consumption is bottoming out, which is necessary to ensure that Russia does not lapse into a consumer-driven recession.
