Direct OMTPL Loss Settlement System Gradually Picks Up in Povolzhe
OREANDA-NEWS. October 16, 2009. In August and September 2009, ROSNO’s Privolzhskaya Directorate paid in total 274,922 roubles pursuant to the direct OMTPL loss settlement procedure. Under the new system, the insurance compensations were most actively applied for by insurants in Nizhny Novgorod, Chuvashia, and Tatarstan, reported the press-centre of ROSNO.
The new OMTPL rules introducing the right of choice for the aggrieved party to apply for compensation either to the guilty party’s insurer or to his or her own insurer became effective on 01 March of the running year. Previously, ROSNO clients displayed some interest towards loss settlement under the new system (initially causing the number of phone enquiries to increase), but they started actively using the new system only in recent months.
"Insurants are a bit afraid of this arrangement, which is still new for the Russian insurance market, and largely prefer to follow the traditional scheme when applying for insurance compensations — i.e. to contact the insurance company of the guilty party", explains Mr. Dmitry Makarov, Deputy Director and Executive Director of ROSNO’s Privolzhskaya Directorate. "Today, however, given the unstable insurance market, clients are themselves interested in applying for insurance compensations to a reliable and stable company offering solid customer service; therefore, our clients increasingly prefer to contact ROSNO for compensations".
For the time being, the share of insurance compensations paid by ROSNO’s Privolzhskaya Directorate in August and September 2009 pursuant to the direct OMTPL loss settlement procedure accounts for no more than 2% of the total volume of OMTPL payments made by the Directorate during the same period. However, there is a stable trend for increase in the number of loss settlement cases under the new system: while there were no direct loss settlement applications during the period from March through July, 30 such applications were registered in August in September.
