OREANDA-NEWS. October 06, 2009. Western Shipyard (WSY) shall carry out tests on all the systems of the unique ship "WINDLIFT1", built for the German company.

The testing of the specific ship of 101.8 m length and 36 m breadth, designed for the construction and maintenance of wind farms within the high seas, is divided into two steps: tests at Western Shipyard water-channel and sea trials to be carried out in the Baltic Sea.

Currently, more than 6,000 tons weight ship WINDLIFT1, supported by four 71 m length structures ("feet") and raised with the assistance of hydrocylinders to 32 meters above the sea level, is moored at Western Shipyard 131/132 quay. The unique operation shall checked hydraulic and navigation systems. Later 103m. length, 500 tonne lifting capacity crane will be tested by 200 tons load.

All, very special ship WINDLIFT1, testing is supervised by the international Classification society Germanischer Lloyd surveyors, on-board outfitted systems and equipment representatives, ship‘s Customer and the Western shipyard professionals.

In the middle of this year summer, one of the first ships of this type in the history of the European shipbuilding, was given the name of WINDLIFT1 at the solemn ceremony. It is the largest project in the whole lifetime of the company. Each ship construction phase has been a real challenge for WSY professionals.

The jack-up ship WINDLIFT1, built for BARD group of companies, will carry out the construction of 400 megawatt wind farm, offshore within high seas for about 100 km from the continent, and taking 860 m2 area.

Ship WINDLIFT1 is powered by a four-wheel-rotating propeller mechanism, each of 1100 kw capacity. Auxiliary 25 tons crane, a helicopter landing site, modern accomodations, recreation and common spaces with modern equipment and mechanical workshops outfotted with the latest technological facilities are equipped on the ship outside the basic 500 t lifting capacity crane.
