According to the National Bank of Moldova, the change in this rate was due to reduction in the balance of loans in the national currency by 130.8 million leis (1%) while the balance of the foreign currency loans, expressed in MDL, increased by 26.9 million leis (0.3%).

Reduction in the balance of credits in MDL was due to decrease in the balance of loans provided to the private sector, other organizations involved in financial transactions, as well as to individuals by 4 million leis (0.1%), by 20, 5 million leis (2.1%) and by 108.6 million leis (2.6%), respectively.

At the same time, the balance of loans provided to state enterprises grew by 2.3 million leis (0.9%). Expressed in U.S. dollars, the balance of foreign currency loans has increased by US 1.6 million (0.2%), amounting to US 895.1 million.

The volume of loans granted in MDL in August 2009 amounted to 574.4 million leis, decreasing by 77.1 million leis, or by 11,8% as compared with the previous month. The volume of foreign currency loans granted to the legal entities amounted to 518 million leis (US 46.2 million), increasing as compared with the previous month by US9.5 million.
