Volume of Cargo Transportations in Moldova Declines by 60% in Jan-Aug
OREANDA-NEWS. September 25, 2009. In January-August 2009, the volume of cargo transportations by rail, auto, river and air companies has totaled 4 million 698,1 thousand tons, declining by 60,6% as compared to the same period of the last year.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, over the first eight months of this year, the auto transport companies have carried 1 million 889,1 thousand tons of cargo, or 48% less than at the same period of 2008. Of the total volume of cargo transportations, 58,1% accounted for Chisinau companies, 16,4% - Balti, 3,5% - Singera region, 3,2% - Anenii Noi region, 3,2% - Orhei, 2.7% - Ialoveni and 2,5% - Taraclia area.
Over the corresponding period, the volume of cargo transportations by rail amounted to 2 million 696.1 thousand tons, declining by 67.1% as compared to the same period of 2008. The largest share in the total volume of goods loaded at the railway stations of the country accounted for cereals and bakery products - 42,4%, ferrous metals and scrap- 15,6%, building materials and cement - 12,2%.
The river transport has carried 8,2% more goods than in January-August of 2008 - 112,4 thousand tons and air transport- 2,5% less than in January-August of the last year -0,5 thousand tons.
