OREANDA-NEWS. September 25, 2009. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the decline was mainly due to reduction in sales of the non-foodstuffs by 10,8%, which accounted for 63,9% of the total retail sales (66,7% in January-August 2008).

At the same time, the sales of the foodstuffs have increased by 6,1%, accounting for 36,1% of the total retail sales (33,4% in January-August 2008). The decline in the retail sales was registered by the public enterprises, mixed (public + private) and companies of the private forms of ownership by 13,4%, 12,5% and 7,2%, respectively.

At the same time, the companies of joint (with participation of foreign capital) and foreign ownership have increased sales by 2,1%. As of September 1, 2009, the existing stocks of commercial enterprises amounted to 4 billion 799.6 million lei, increasing by 11,5% as compared to the same period of 2008.

The largest share in the total sales accounted for Chisinau municipality- 55,7%, Balti - 8,8%, Gagauzia - 3,1%, Orhei region - 2,2%, Cahul - 2,1%, Ungheni - 1,8%, Edinet - 1,8%, Soroca and Drochia - 1,7%. According to the NBM, in August 2009, the retail sales of enterprises amounted to 1 billion 827,1 million lei, increasing by 6,8% as compared to the previous month and decreased by 5.6% as compared to August of 2008.
