OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2009. The Investment Council of the Governor of Nizhniy Novgorod has decided to provide Energoatom Concern with 3,248,000 sq m in Navashino district for the construction of Nizhniy Novgorod nuclear power plant.

The plant is supposed to be built near the village of Monakovo, Navashino district, Nizhniy Novgorod region, 20 km from Navashino and the border of Vladimir region.

During the meeting of the council Vice Governor of Nizhniy Novgorod region Vladimir Ivanov said that Energoatom Concern was going to allocate 160bln RUR. 19bln RUR will be spent on survey, engineering and construction of industrial and domestic waste site for NPP and the village of power engineers.

For the site and the village the Council has allocated two land plots with respective areas of 400,000 sq m and 2,000,000 sq m.

“The construction will be started as soon as we are granted the license, supposedly in 2010,” says a representative of Energoatom Concern.

Nizhniy Novgorod NPP will consist of two 1,170MW reactors and will produce over 17bln KWh a year and employ almost 1,000 people. The 1st unit of the plant will be launched in 2017.
