200,000,000th Ton of Crude Oil Lifted at CPC Marine Terminal
OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2009. The 200,000,000th ton of crude oil was lifted at the Marine Terminal of Caspian Pipeline Consortium near Novorossiysk since commencement of the CPC pipeline operations.
CPC links the oil fields of West Kazakhstan and Russian coast of the Black Sea. The first tanker was loaded with Kazakhstani oil at the CPC Terminal on October 13, 2001. Starting 2004, a Russian oil stream joined the pipeline system at Kropotkin Pump Station (PS) in Krasnodar Krai. In 2005 CPC reached the designed first phase capacity level of 30 MMTA. In August 2006, the 100,000,000th ton of crude oil was lifted at the Consortium's Terminal. This year CPC reached a record monthly throughput of over 3 million tons. As of today, 1865 tankers were loaded from the single-point moorings of CPC Marine Terminal during the elapsed 8 years of operations without any accident and with strict observance of all environmental and safety regulations.
Last April the Company obtained a Certificate of Conformity with ISO 14001:2004 for its Environmental Management System. Currently, a decision has been taken and work is underway to introduce OHSAS 18001:2007, an international occupational health and safety standard. A prime landmark of the Company's in the sphere of labor safety was reached on the 16th of September – 5 million hours of continuous work by CPC employees, contractors and subcontractors without any injuries related to disability.
"Lifting of the 200,000,000th ton of crude oil is a major landmark in the history of our Company, – says Vladimir Razdukhov, General Director of the Consortium. – Some three years ago we lifted 100 million tons and used these years not just to double the said volume, but to carry out modernization of a number of our facilities, improve the quality of management, enhance reliability and safety of the system in whole, having brought the system availability factor to 98% this year. In particular, we implemented the project of switching the power units of Kropotkin PS pumps to fuel gas; reconstruction of a long pipeline segment in Kazakhstan is nearing completion; and the project of external power supply to the CPC Marine Terminal is underway. The process of developing design documentation for further expansion of the CPC system is also nearing completion".
