Klaipeda Port Participated in Seatrade Europe 2009
OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2009. Lithuanian national delegation for the 4th time took part in the international cruise business exhibition „Seatrade Europe 2009“ in Hamburg (Germany) which takes place every two years, reported the press-centre of Klaipeda Port.
The main objective for the participation in „Seatrade Europe 2009“ is – to induce cruise shipping in Klaipeda port by presenting the attractiveness of Klaipeda region for cruise lines and potential passengers, informing them about the new tourism services, Klaipeda port infrastructure, the system of the rebates of port dues fro cruise vessels.
The following enterprises and cruise business companies presented Klaipeda port and city in the national stand (area 12 m2): Klaipeda State Seaport Authority, Klaipeda municipality, PE Klaipeda tourism and culture information centre, UAB „Klaipedos Meja“, UAB „Krantas Travel“ and AB „Klaipedos laivu remontas“ (Klaipeda ship-repair yard).
At the conference that took place during the exhibition „Seatrade Europe 2009“ relevant cruise business matters were discussed, including – the present and the future of cruise shipping in Europe and the challenges during economic recession period, rendering of cruise services for well-off passengers, ship-building, designing and technologies and services on a ship.
Klaipeda State Seaport Authority was represented there by the statistics specialist of Port Marketing department Kestutis Voveris.

Klaipeda port cruise shipping season started in May 12 2009 and will end on the 28th of September together with the call of cruise liner „Braemar“ on the same day. Totally 50 cruise vessels were registered this year and it is anticipated to have about 40 000 cruise passengers and this is a delightful result, taking into consideration the impact of economic recession and the data of 2008 cruise season when 46 cruise vessels visited Klaipeda port and 32 461 cruise passenger. This year big cruise liners called the port (more than 175 m of length) – there were even 22 calls of such big liners. Besides, in 2009 season 6 cruise vessels dropped anchor for the first time in our port and the cruise liner „Braemar“ 205,46 m of length will moor for the first time in Klaipeda port and also will end 2009 cruise shipping season in the port.
