Ukraine to Support Sugar Industry
OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2009. The Government will elaborate and approve a complex of measures that are to facilitate improvement of the situation in sugar industry. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko imparted during the press conference in the course of her working trip to Vinnytsya region following her visit of Gaysyn sugar plant.
Yulia Tymoshenko noted through the absence of well-weighed and predictable state policy in the direction of sugar industry Ukraine has lost its leading position in the world over the recent 18 years. “Ukraine that has always been the motherland of huge yields of sugar-beet, the motherland of the best science related to growth of sugar-beet and the leader in exporting sugar to Europe and the Near East has lost its positions nowadays,” the Head of Government emphasized. At this, the Premier stressed that over the years of independence areas of sugar beets have shortened in Ukraine and the number of sugar beet processing plants reduced.
Yulia Tymoshenko considers in order to return the sugar industry its former strength it is necessary, first of all, to ensure the branch with stable revolving funds, changing the current credit policy for that. Also, according to the Prime Minister, another problem to tackle is an issue of providing enterprises of sugar industry with agricultural equipment imported to the country nowadays.
“With this aim we have laid into the current budget and a separate article will be included into the budget of next year so that to give the state guarantees for purchase, for instance, of up-to-date, most effective and productive agricultural equipment for agricultural enterprises growing sugar-beets,” Yulia Tymoshenko informed. According to her, such machinery will be proposed for lease under long-term credit conditions, without first inpayment.
