Kazakh Oil Can be Carried via Baku-Supsa Pipeline
OREANDA-NEWS. September 15, 2009. Azerbaijan is unready to satisfy Kazakhstan’s request for its oil export via Baku-Supsa pipeline.
Vagif Aliyev, the head of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan’s Department of Investments, says that the issue of Kazakh oil transportation via Baku-Supsa pipeline should be discussed with the SOCAR’s partners on Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC).
“Baku-Supsa is now used for transportation of Azeri oil form AIOC’s contract block. If we switch the entire volume of AIOC oil to Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline then it will be possible to consider options of transportation of other oils via Bku-Supsa,” he said.
Currently Baku-Supsa carries oil of AIOC participant ExxonMobil that is not participating in BTC Co consortium.
“By the present no decisions on switching of whole oil to BTC pipe have been made. There are also questions of ownership for assets and the right of exporter and they also demand discussion,” the SOCAR representative said.
