OREANDA-NEWS. September 15, 2009. Rescue training - aircraft fire-fighting and rescue of 12 “injured” passengers and 2 crew members - took place at Vilnius International Airport (VIA), reported the press-centre of Vilnius International Airport.

Emergency landing of a passenger aircraft, fire fighting and life-saving operations were simulated during the training in order to test and improve cooperation between VIA structural divisions and special services of Vilnius City in case of an aircraft crash within the territory of Vilnius Airport.

“All rescue forces of Vilnius Airport demonstrated an efficient and adequate performance. They are ready to carry out necessary aircraft rescue and life saving operations 24 hours a day”, said Julius Sileika, Chief of the Fire Department of VIA, after training. “Training once again helps us to check our skills and facilities.”

VIA vehicles, rescue equipment and rescue brigades were employed during the rescue training. The following special services of Vilnius City also took part in the training: officers of Vilnius County Fire and Rescue Board; doctors of Vilnius City First-aid Station; officers of Vilnius County Police Headquarters (PH); officers of the Traffic Police Headquarters; officers of Vilnius Airport Border Crossing Point of the State Boarder Guard Service; airport security officers of Vilnius Unit of the Public Safety Service; employees of ground operation service providers - UAB Litcargus and UAB Baltic Ground Services. Students of Antanas Gustaitis’ Aviation Institute of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University acted as the “injured” passengers.
 
The training was observed by officers of the Administration of Civil Aviation, Kaunas Airport, airlines, Civil Safety Service of Vilnius City and media representatives.

Similar training took place at VIA at the beginning of June.
