Estonian Consumer Confidence Recovers in September
OREANDA-NEWS. September 15, 2009. According to the Estonian Institute of Economic Research (EKI) the confidence of consumers has become more positive concerning a change in the economic situation in Estonia.
The consumer confidence indicator grew by five points to minus 18 points in September as compared to August, but is significantly below the average level of the years 1992-2009 (minus 11 points).
If in August 16 percent of those interviewed hoped that the economic situation would improve in the next 12 months then in September there were 27 percent such people.
In the residents' opinion the growth in unemployment will slow down during the next 12 months. The financial situation of families did not significantly change compared with August.
33 percent of the families are hoping to save in the following 12 months, 52 percent are making both ends meet and 14 percent live from old savings or make debts. The forecast of the purchase of durable goods remains bad as before, EKI said.
