OREANDA-NEWS. September 10, 2009. Senior management of Norilsk Nickel MMC met with top managers of major Chinese companies, who arrived to Moscow to negotiate further cooperation with the Company, reported the press-centre of Norilsk Nickel.

During the visit of the delegation from China, General Director of Norilsk Nickel MMC Vladimir Strzhalkovsky met with heads of seven major Chinese metal companies, as well as with the representatives of China’s Association of Stainless Steel Producers.

The Chinese delegation will visit the Company’s production sites in Norilsk Industrial Region – Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant, Taimyrsky and Oktyabrsky Mines, Copper Plant and Talnakh Concentrator.

China is the world’s largest producer of stainless steel and respectively, the largest nickel consumer. As a major producer of this metal, Norilsk Nickel considers China as an important strategic partner. Due to the importance of China’s market to the Company, a new sales office was recently opened in Shanghai.

Norilsk Nickel highly appreciates China’s role in the world’s economy, in particular in the nonferrous and precious metals markets and is ready to consider joint mining and production projects in Russia, China and other countries.

According to Vladimir Strzhalkovsky, the Company’s sales in China have grown substantially despite the world’s economic crisis. During the first 6 months of 2009, Norilsk Nickel supplied over 30 thousand tons of nickel to China.
